Marvis Linwood "Bootsy" Thornton III (born July 30, 1977) is an American former professional basketball player. He was known for being a very skilled shooting guard. Bootsy played for many teams during his career, mostly in Europe. He had a very successful time playing in Italy and Turkey.

Bootsy's Early Life and College Years

High School Basketball Star

Bootsy Thornton grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. He played basketball at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. He was a talented player even in his high school years.

Playing in College

After high school, Bootsy went to college. He played basketball for two years at Tallahassee Community College. Then, he moved to St. John's University. He played for the St. John's Red Storm team.

A Memorable College Game

Bootsy had a very famous game on January 24, 1999. He scored 40 points against the Duke Blue Devils. This was an amazing performance. He even made seven three-pointers in that game. This game is still remembered by St. John's fans.

Bootsy's Professional Basketball Career

After college, Bootsy Thornton became a professional basketball player. He moved to Italy to start his career. He played for many different teams over 14 years.

Playing in Italy

Bootsy spent a lot of his career in Italy. He played for a team called Montepaschi Siena three different times. These were some of his most successful years.

Winning Championships in Italy

With Montepaschi Siena, Bootsy won three national championships. This means his team was the best in Italy three times! He also helped his team win the Italian Cup in 2012. They won the Italian Supercup twice as well.

Bootsy also played for teams in other countries. He played for FC Barcelona in Spain. He also played for Akasvayu Girona in Spain.

Success in Turkey

Bootsy played for Efes Pilsen in Turkey. He helped them win the Turkish League championship in 2009. He was even named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Turkish League Finals that year. He also won the Turkish Cup and the Turkish President's Cup twice with Efes Pilsen.

EuroLeague Achievements

The EuroLeague is a very important basketball competition in Europe. It features the best teams from different countries. In the 2007–08 season, Bootsy was chosen for the All-EuroLeague Second Team. This shows he was one of the top players in Europe that year. He also won the FIBA EuroCup in 2007.

Later Career Teams

Later in his career, Bootsy played for Dinamo Sassari in Italy. He also played for Strasbourg IG in France. He retired from professional basketball in 2014.
