Borivoje "Bora" Todorović (born November 5, 1929 – died July 7, 2014) was a famous Serbian actor. He was known for his many roles in films and plays. Bora was the younger brother of actress Mira Stupica and the father of actor Srđan Todorović.
Bora Todorović's Life and Career
Bora Todorović had a very long acting career. He starred in many popular films from Yugoslavia, which was a country in Europe that existed before Serbia. Some of his most famous movies include The Marathon Family (1982), Balkan Express (1983), Balkanski Špijun (also known as Balkan Spy, 1984), Time of the Gypsies (1988), and Underground (1995).
Bora's father passed away when Bora was a child. After finishing high school, Bora served in the army. At that time, he didn't plan to become an actor. However, his older sister, Mira, was very passionate about acting. She introduced him to the world of theater and film. Soon, Bora also fell in love with acting.
He decided to study at the Belgrade Drama Arts Academy. After his studies, he started acting on stage at the Beogradsko Dramsko Pozorište (Belgrade Drama Theatre). In 1957, Bora lived and worked as an actor in Zagreb. He later moved back to Belgrade in 1961.
From 1961 to 1983, Bora was a member of the "Atelje 212" theater group in Belgrade. He performed many different roles there. In October 2002, he appeared in a play called Larry Thompson at the Zvezdara Teatar in Belgrade.
In his later years, Bora Todorović spent his time between Prague and Belgrade. He was married to Carolyn Kilkka–Todorović, who was an American gymnast and translator. They had two daughters: Dana (born in 1977), who is a writer, and Tara (born in 1993), who is a volleyball player. His son, Srđan Todorović (born in 1965), also became an actor. Srđan was from Bora's earlier marriage to Snežana Matić.
Awards and Recognition
Bora Todorović received several important awards for his acting. In November 2002, he was given the Lifetime Achievement Award "Pavle Vujisić". This award recognized his amazing work in films made in Yugoslavia.
Later, in December 2006, he received another special award called "Dobričin prsten". This award is also for lifetime achievement, but it celebrates an actor's contributions to theater in Yugoslavia. These awards show how much he was respected for his talent in both movies and plays.
