The Borgstrom House is a really old and special house found in Houston, Texas. It's located at 1401 Cortland Street. This house is so important that it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 14, 1984. This means it's officially recognized as a historic building worth protecting!

History of the Borgstrom House

The Borgstrom House was built in 1902. A tailor named Gustaf M. Borgstrom built it for his family. It's a great example of the early homes in an area called Houston Heights.

Houston Heights Community

Houston Heights was one of the first and largest planned communities in Texas. It was started in 1891. It became its own city in 1896. Later, in 1919, the people living there voted for it to become part of Houston.

Protecting the House

The Borgstrom House is on a big corner lot. It has a nice yard with hedges, bushes, and trees. In 2006, people decided to make it a special landmark for the City of Houston. This official protection started on January 3, 2007. This means the house must be kept in good condition because it's part of the Houston Heights Historic District.

What the Borgstrom House Looks Like

The Borgstrom House has a special look called Stick/Eastlake Queen Anne. It's a one-story house shaped like an "L."

Building Details

The house is made of wood with flat boards on the outside. It stands on brick supports. The roof has a sloped shape and is covered with diamond-shaped shingles. Some shingles are square or look like fishtails.

Porch and Windows

The house has a porch with fancy turned posts. It also has decorative trim and railings with square parts. All the windows on the house have shutters. The Borgstrom House is important because it shows what homes looked like when Houston Heights was first being built. The owners have kept it looking historic and haven't changed it too much.
