Bosco Chocolate Syrup facts for kids
Bosco Chocolate Syrup is a popular brand of chocolate syrup. It was first made way back in 1928. The company, Bosco Products, Inc., is located in Towaco, New Jersey. You can find Bosco products all over the United States and even in Europe!
The Sweet History of Bosco
Bosco Chocolate Syrup was created in 1928 in Camden, New Jersey. An unknown doctor is thought to have invented it. A company called The William S. Scull Company started making it in 1931. They had a famous coffee called Boscul Coffee. This coffee gave the syrup its name: "Bosco."
Later, in the 1950s, a company called Corn Products Company bought Bosco. Then, in 1985, Bosco Products, Inc. took over. The name "Bosco" comes from an old Greek word, "bóskō." This word means "I nourish." Today, Bosco also makes other treats, like candy bars.
How Bosco is Made
In the past, Bosco was made in a special way. Big ingredients were put into large stainless steel cooking pots. Smaller ingredients and flavors were mixed in separately. Everything was carefully measured.
While in the pots, Bosco was pasteurized. This means it was heated to make sure it was uniform and safe. Then, it was cooled down for bottling. Computers helped to check the temperatures. Malt extract and vanilla were added. These mixed with cocoa powder to give Bosco its special taste.
However, the way Bosco is made changed around 2020. The recipe no longer uses malt extract or vanilla. This has changed the flavor and how thick the syrup is.
Bosco used to come in glass jars. Now, you can buy it in easy-to-use plastic squeeze bottles.
Bosco Flavors
As of 2015, Bosco comes in many different flavors. Besides the classic chocolate, you can find:
