The Botanical Garden of the Ozarks is a special place in Fayetteville, Arkansas, United States. It's a non-profit organization, meaning it's run for the public good, not to make money. This garden covers about 40 acres (16 hectares) of land.

You can find it on the east side of Lake Fayetteville. The garden has 12 different display gardens. It also has the only Butterfly House in Arkansas. Here, you can see many types of plants and animals throughout the year. The garden is supported by its members. It teaches people about nature and the environment. It's also a popular spot for community events and unique outdoor experiences.

The garden hosts fun events all year. These include the Greening of the Garden Gala, Firefly Fling, and Chefs in the Garden. Many students visit for field trips. The garden also offers classes for both kids and adults.

Exploring the Gardens

The Botanical Garden of the Ozarks started in 1994. It first opened its doors to visitors in 2007. The first part of the garden to be finished was the "Backyard Gardens."

Original Backyard Gardens

When the garden first opened, it had nine main areas:

  • Japanese Garden: A peaceful garden designed in a Japanese style.
  • Vegetable and Herb Garden: Where you can see many kinds of vegetables and herbs growing.
  • Children's Garden: A fun space designed especially for younger visitors.
  • Four Seasons Garden: This garden changes its look throughout the year.
  • Shade Garden: A cool spot with plants that like shady areas.
  • Rose and Perennial Garden: Filled with beautiful roses and other plants that return each year.
  • Ozark Native Garden: Features plants that naturally grow in the Ozark region.
  • Sensory Garden: Designed to engage all your senses with different textures, smells, and sounds.
  • Rock and Water Garden: A garden with interesting rocks and water features.

Newer Garden Additions

Since 2007, the garden has added even more exciting areas:

  • Founder's Garden: A special garden honoring those who helped start the botanical garden.
  • Reading Railroad: A unique area that combines reading with a garden setting.
  • Education Cottage Garden: A garden near the education building, used for learning.
  • Butterfly House and Garden: A place where you can walk among many colorful butterflies. It's the only one of its kind in Arkansas.
