Bottle Caps are a popular type of sweet candy that looks just like the metal caps you find on soda bottles! These fun candies come in several classic soda flavors, including grape, cola, orange, root beer, and cherry. Bottle Caps candy first appeared in 1972, created by a company called Breaker Confections. Today, you can find them sold by the Ferrara Candy Company.

What Do Bottle Caps Taste Like?

Bottle Caps have a unique taste that is both a little tart and a little sweet. Imagine a mix of flavors similar to other tablet candies like Smarties (known as Rockets in some countries), SweeTarts, or Runts. However, Bottle Caps stand out because they have those distinct soda flavors and are shaped like tiny bottle caps.

How Are Bottle Caps Packaged?

When they first came out, Bottle Caps were sold in green pouches. Now, you'll usually find them in purple packages. A typical package weighs about 0.73 oz (21 g) and contains around 24 candy pieces. You can also buy them in bigger boxes that hold 48 smaller packages. For Halloween or other treats, they are sometimes sold in tiny, individually wrapped pouches with three candies inside. Larger boxes with 5 oz (140 g) of candy are also available.

The Evolution of Bottle Caps Candy

Over the years, Bottle Caps have seen a few changes.

Flavor Changes Over Time

In the past, the candy included a lemon-lime flavor instead of the cherry flavor we know today. This shows how candy companies sometimes update their flavors to keep things exciting!

Fizzy Bottle Caps

There was also a special version called Fizzy Bottle Caps, made by the Willy Wonka Co. These candies were similar to the original ones but had extra ingredients that made them fizz when you ate them. This fizzing action made the candy even more flavorful and fun to enjoy.

Changes in Candy Shape

Around early 2009, the individual Bottle Caps candies became a bit smaller. The bottom of the candy was also flattened, so it no longer looked exactly like the underside of a real bottle cap. Even with these small changes, Bottle Caps remain a favorite candy for many.
