Boursin is a popular brand of soft, creamy cheese. It tastes a bit like cream cheese. You can find it in many different flavors.
The Story of Boursin Cheese
The very first Boursin flavor was garlic and fine herbs. It was created in 1957 by François Boursin. He was a cheese maker from Normandy, a region in France.
Mr. Boursin got his idea from a traditional French party dish. Guests would take a fresh cheese, called "fromage frais," and add herbs to it for extra flavor. His recipe was special because it was the first flavored cheese product sold all over France.
Boursin cheese was first made in Normandy. For a long time, it was only produced in a town called Croisy-sur-Eure, France. In 1990, a big company named Unilever bought the Boursin brand. Later, in November 2007, Unilever sold Boursin to another company called Groupe Bel.
How Boursin Was Advertised
Boursin started advertising on television on October 1, 1968. This was a big deal because it was the first time French television allowed commercials.
In 1972, Boursin launched a famous advertising slogan. It said: "Du pain, du vin, du Boursin." This means "Some bread, some wine, some Boursin." Later, the slogan was changed to: "Du pain, du Boursin, on est bien." This means "Some bread, some Boursin, we are good."
