Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Braddock's Battlefield History Center is a special museum in Pennsylvania. It's built right where an important battle happened long ago. This battle was called the Battle of the Monongahela, and it took place on July 9, 1755.

The museum helps visitors learn about this battle and other events from the French and Indian War. It shows how history unfolded near a place called the Forks of the Ohio.

About the History Center

The Braddock's Battlefield History Center is a small museum. It also works as a visitors center. It is located about 7 miles (11 km) east of downtown Pittsburgh. You can find it in a town called North Braddock, Pennsylvania.

What You Can See

Inside the museum, you can explore many interesting things. There is a collection of art and old documents. You can also see artifacts, which are old objects from the past. These items help tell the story of the Braddock Expedition. This was a big journey during the French and Indian War.

The museum is in a building that used to be a car dealership. It shares the space with a small gymnastics company. The building sits on a three-acre piece of land. From here, you can look out over the Monongahela River Valley. You can also see the historic Edgar Thomson Works of United States Steel.

How It Started

The idea for the museum came from Robert T. Messner. He was a retired lawyer from Pittsburgh and a grandfather. He worked hard to create the museum. Local groups helped him with support. The History Center first opened its doors to the public on August 18, 2012.

In December 2018, Mr. Messner gave the History Center to another historical site. This site is called Fort Ligonier. Fort Ligonier has been in charge of running the Braddock's Battlefield History Center since May 2019.
