Brandon Bryant's Football Journey
High School Days
Brandon Bryant went to Rosa Fort High School in Tunica, Mississippi. He played two important positions there. He was a quarterback (who throws the ball) and a safety (who defends against passes).
Many sports experts thought Brandon was a very good player. Websites like 247sports.com and ESPN rated him highly. On November 4, 2013, he decided to play college football for Mississippi State.
College Football Career
Freshman Year Highlights (2015)
Brandon didn't play in the 2014 season. This is called a redshirt year. It means he practiced with the team but didn't play in games. This helped him get ready for college football.
In 2015, Brandon played in all 13 games. He started in eight of those games. He began as a backup safety. But after five games, he became a starter.
In a game against Troy, he forced a fumble. This means he hit the ball carrier and made them drop the ball. The next week, he caught his first college interception. This is when a defensive player catches a pass meant for an opponent. He even ran it back for a touchdown! He also recovered a blocked punt in that game.
Later that year, famous football player Tim Tebow called Brandon the "Freak of Week." This was because Brandon could run very fast. He could also lift a lot of weight. He caught another interception in a game against Alabama.
Sophomore Year (2016)
In 2016, a newspaper called The Clarion-Ledger said Brandon was one of the most important players for his team. They called him the "top playmaker" on defense. This means he made many exciting plays. He also had an interception against Samford.
Junior Year (2017)
Brandon played in all 13 games again in the 2017 season. He caught another interception in a game where his team beat BYU.
Playing Pro Football
New York Jets
After college, Brandon hoped to be picked by an NFL team. He was not chosen in the 2018 NFL draft. But he still signed with the New York Jets on July 16, 2018. This is called signing as an undrafted free agent.
He was later "waived" by the Jets. This means they let him go from the main team. But he was then signed to their "practice squad." Players on the practice squad train with the team. They can be called up to play if needed.
On December 29, 2018, Brandon was moved to the Jets' "active roster." This means he could play in real games. In 2019, he was waived again due to an injury.
