Becoming a Musician

Brandon went to a special arts school in Dayton, Ohio. He finished there in 2004. After that, he studied music at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. He learned from a great teacher named Michel Debost. He also studied in Paris, France, and earned a Master's degree from the Manhattan School of Music in 2010.

Playing with Imani Winds

In 2018, Brandon became the flutist for Imani Winds. This group travels all over the world to perform. With Imani Winds, Brandon has been nominated for three Grammy Awards. In 2024, they won a Grammy Award for their live recording called Passion For Bach And Coltrane.

Amazing Performances

Brandon has played as a solo artist with many big orchestras. These include the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. He has also been a guest flutist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He has performed with other famous groups like the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

Brandon loves to work with other artists too. He has played with the Escher String Quartet and the composer Valerie Coleman. He also works with harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani on music by Johann Sebastian Bach.

In 2020, Brandon and Imani Winds were named "Artist Scholars" at the Manhattan School of Music. In 2021, he was part of a special program by WQXR-FM to help rising artists. On May 4, 2023, Brandon performed his own concert at Lincoln Center in New York City. He played music from his album called Twofold.

Teaching Music

Brandon also shares his musical knowledge with others. In 2021, he joined the teachers at the Curtis Institute of Music. He has also taught at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.

New Music Projects

In 2024, Brandon started a project called the Community Concerto Project. This project will ask composers to write new flute concertos. A concerto is a piece of music for a solo instrument and an orchestra. These new pieces will be played with local students. This helps connect professional musicians with young students in different cities.
