Professor Branka Vucetic is a smart scientist from Australia. She is an expert in something called coding theory. This helps make wireless technology work better. She works at the University of Sydney. There, she is a special professor and leads a center that studies telecommunications.

About Branka Vucetic
Branka Vucetic grew up in Belgrade, Serbia. Her parents were a school teacher and a shop assistant. She became very interested in physics and wireless engineering. This happened after a high school teacher gave her a tough question. It was about how electromagnetic waves work.
She loved researching in the library. This made her want to help other young women. She hoped to inspire them to study engineering, technology, science, or math.
Education and Career
Branka Vucetic went to the University of Belgrade. She earned her first degree in Electrical Engineering in 1972. Later, she received her Master of Science in 1978. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Telecommunications in 1982.
She has worked as a professor in many countries. These include Serbia, the United Kingdom, Australia, and China. She is a Fellow of the IEEE. This is a big group for electrical and electronics engineers. She is also a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science.
What Branka Vucetic Studies
Professor Vucetic's current work focuses on two main areas. These are wireless networks and the Internet of things.
Wireless Networks
In wireless networks, she explores new ways to send information. She looks at something called millimetre wave (mmWave) frequency bands. Think of these as special radio channels. The usual channels below 6 GHz are very busy.
Her team is looking at unused channels between 30 GHz and 300 GHz. They believe these new channels will change wireless communication. This could lead to the next big step in how we connect wirelessly. She works on new theories and ways to process signals for these systems.
Internet of Things
The Internet of Things (IoT) means everyday objects connected to the internet. Professor Vucetic works on making these connections stronger. This is important for things that need to work perfectly.
For example, her work helps with smart power grids. It also helps cars share information to avoid accidents. This includes detecting slippery roads or helping self-driving cars. She also works on remote robot-assisted surgeries.
She is also looking into how devices can get power without cables. This could happen by using tiny waves. This would make batteries last much longer. It would mean fewer chargers are needed.
Professor Vucetic has written many articles and four books.
