Brawley got its start a long time ago. A post office was opened there in 1890. This was a big deal because it helped people send and receive mail, connecting them to the rest of the world. The post office stayed open for about 24 years, closing its doors in 1914.

The community was named after a person named James Brawley. He was one of the first people to settle in the area. Imagine being one of the very first families to live in a new place! For a short time, Brawley was also known by a different name: "Butts."
