The Breedlove House and Water Tower are a special historic property found in Benton County, Arkansas. They are located east of Bentonville, Arkansas, about 1.1 miles (1.8 km) from a main road called Arkansas Highway 72. This property includes a beautiful old house and a unique brick water tower.

Discovering the Breedlove House

The Breedlove House is a two-story building made of brick. It was first built around 1887. Over time, the house was made larger and given a new look around 1907. This means it has a mix of different architectural styles.

What Architectural Styles Can You See?

The original house had details from the Italianate and Eastlake styles. Italianate homes often have tall, narrow windows and low-pitched roofs. Eastlake style adds lots of decorative wooden details, like carved porches. When the house was updated, a large Colonial Revival porch was added to the front. This style often features grand columns and a balanced, formal look.

The Historic Water Tower

Next to the house stands a tall, square brick tower. This tower is about 28 feet (8.5 meters) high and was built around 1920. It wasn't just any tower; it was built to hold water for a large apple orchard!

Why Was the Water Tower So Important?

Benton County was once famous for its apple industry. Many farms grew apples, and they needed a lot of water. This water tower helped supply water to keep the apple trees healthy. Today, this tower is the only building left in the county that shows how important the apple industry once was. It's a reminder of the area's farming history.

A Place on the National Register

Because of their historical importance, the Breedlove House and Water Tower were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. This is a special list of places in the United States that are considered important to history and should be protected.
