Sir Bryan Palmes (1600–1654) was an English politician who lived a long time ago. He was a member of the House of Commons, which is like a part of the government, in 1626 and 1640. He also fought as a Royalist for King Charles I during the English Civil War.

Early Life and Education

Bryan Palmes was born in 1600. His father was Guy Palmes. Bryan went to Trinity College, Oxford in 1615 and later studied at Wadham College, Oxford. These were important universities in England.

A Career in Politics

In 1626, Bryan Palmes was chosen to be a Member of Parliament for a place called Stamford. A Member of Parliament is someone elected to represent people in the government.

Later, in April 1640, he was elected again as a Member of Parliament for Aldborough. This happened during a special meeting of Parliament known as the Short Parliament, which didn't last very long.

Role in the English Civil War

On April 21, 1642, Bryan Palmes was knighted, which means he was given the title "Sir" by the King.

When the English Civil War began, Sir Bryan Palmes strongly supported King Charles I. He even helped raise a group of soldiers, called a regiment, to fight for the King. After the war, he had to pay a fine to the new government to keep his land and property.

Family Life

Sir Bryan Palmes married Mary Tevery. They had a large family with six sons and four daughters. His marriage also connected him to an important person named Sir Thomas Wentworth, who was a friend of his father.
