Brian Patrick Stelter (born September 3, 1985) is an American journalist. He is well-known for his work at CNN. From 2013 to 2022, he was CNN's chief media correspondent. He also hosted the CNN show Reliable Sources. Brian Stelter returned to CNN in 2024. Before CNN, he was a media reporter for The New York Times. He also edited a blog called TVNewser.

Early Life and Education

Brian Stelter was born on September 3, 1985. His parents are Donna and Mark Stelter. He grew up in Damascus, Maryland. Brian went to Damascus High School and finished in 2003.

After high school, he attended Towson University. While there, he was the editor-in-chief of the student newspaper, The Towerlight. This was from 2005 to 2007. While still a student, he started a blog called TVNewser. This blog was all about television and cable news. He later sold this blog, and it became part of a larger network.

Journalism Career

After finishing college in May 2007, Brian Stelter joined The New York Times. He was a media reporter at just 22 years old. This made him one of the youngest staff members there at the time.

In November 2013, he became the host of CNN's Reliable Sources. He also became a senior media correspondent for CNN around the world. Reliable Sources was a show that looked at how the news was reported. On August 18, 2022, CNN decided to cancel Reliable Sources. Brian left the network after the last episode on August 21. The show's cancellation was part of CNN's plans to save money.

In September 2022, Stelter joined a special program at Harvard Kennedy School. It was called the Walter Shorenstein Media and Democracy Fellowship. This program focuses on media, politics, and how information is shared.

Brian Stelter has also worked as a producer. He helped make the Apple TV+ series The Morning Show. This show was inspired by his first book, Top of the Morning. He also helped produce an HBO documentary. It was called After Truth: Disinformation and the Cost of Fake News.

On January 17, 2023, Brian Stelter led a discussion at the World Economic Forum. This big meeting happens every year in Davos. His discussion was about the dangers of false information.

In September 2024, Brian Stelter announced he was returning to CNN. He came back as their "Chief Media Analyst." He also started writing the "Reliable Sources" newsletter again. He will appear on TV and write for CNN's digital platforms. However, he will not host his own show this time.

Brian Stelter was raised in the Methodist faith. He is now nonreligious.

On February 22, 2014, he married Jamie Shupak. She is a traffic anchor for NY1. They had a Jewish wedding ceremony. They are raising their children in Jamie's Jewish faith. The family lives in Manhattan, New York City.
