Brickfilm facts for kids
A brickfilm is a special kind of movie. It's made using Lego bricks, Mega Bloks, or other similar toy blocks. These movies are created with a technique called stop-motion. Sometimes, brickfilms even help the Lego Group show off their new toy sets! The very first known brickfilm was called "The Magic Portal." A person named Lindsay Fleay made it in Perth, Western Australia, sometime between 1980 and 1989.
How Are Brickfilms Made?
Making a brickfilm is like bringing your toys to life! First, you place a Lego character on a flat surface. You take a picture of it. Then, you move the character just a tiny bit. You take another picture. You keep doing this over and over again. Each small movement gets its own photo.
After you have many pictures, you put them together. You use special computer programs called video editing software. This software plays all your pictures very quickly, one after another. When the pictures play fast, it looks like the Lego character is moving! A common speed is 15 pictures per second. This makes the movements look smooth and real.
