Bridal Veil Falls is a beautiful natural waterfall located in Cleburne County, Arkansas. It is found just outside the town of Heber Springs. Many people enjoy visiting this peaceful spot.
This special place actually has two waterfalls very close to each other. Sometimes, one is called Bridal Veil Falls. The other is known as Cornelius Falls. This second name comes from John H. Cornelius. He was the first person to own the land where the falls are located.
A Look at the Falls' History
The story of Bridal Veil Falls began in 1894. That's when John H. Cornelius first got the land. He received it through a special government program. This program helped people get land to build homes and farms. The Cornelius family owned the property until about 1903.
For many years, the land stayed in private hands. But people were still allowed to visit the falls freely. It was a popular spot for locals.
Making the Falls Public
In the 1980s, a group called the Young Business Men's Club of Heber Springs bought the property. They wanted to make sure everyone could enjoy the falls. So, they officially opened it for public use.
Later, in 2012, more improvements were made. The Heber Springs City Parks and Recreation Department worked with the club. They agreed to help take care of the falls area. This made it even better for visitors.
Community Efforts for Visitors
A local group, the Rotary Club of Cleburne County, also helped out. They led a project to improve the area. Thanks to their efforts, a parking lot was built. A short walking trail was also created. They even added a viewing platform. This platform lets visitors see the falls clearly and safely.
Today, Bridal Veil Falls is a wonderful place to visit. It shows how community groups can work together. They help protect natural beauty for everyone to enjoy.
