Brindletown (sometimes called Brindle Town) is a small community in Plumsted Township, Ocean County, New Jersey. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government. Instead, they are part of a larger township.

What Was Brindletown Like Before?

Long ago, Brindletown was a busy little village. It had a hotel where travelers could stay. There was also a mill, which likely processed grains or other goods. Large, fancy homes overlooked a beautiful place called Brindle Lake.

How Did Brindletown Change?

In the 1920s, something big happened. The United States government bought the land where the original Brindletown stood. They needed this land to make Camp Dix bigger. Camp Dix later became known as Fort Dix, a large military base.

Where is the Original Brindletown Now?

Today, the exact spot of the old Brindletown is inside a special area. This area is used for military training, including weapons training. Because of this, the original site is not open to the public.

What is Brindletown Like Today?

The Brindletown you can visit today is a bit different. It's located north of the original site. The center of this community is where Long Swamp Road and Carter Lane meet.

Exploring Modern Brindletown

If you drive along Long Swamp Road and other nearby streets, you'll see many houses. Some farms are also found north of Long Swamp Road. A large part of the community that is still within the Fort Dix area is mostly covered by forests.
