Bristol's Past
Bristol has an interesting history. Long ago, it was also known as "Lightsey."
Becoming a Town
In 1914, the state of Georgia officially made Bristol a town. This meant it had its own local government and rules. People say its name comes from Bristol, a famous city in England.
Changes Over Time
However, Bristol's status as an official town did not last forever. In 1995, Bristol stopped being an official town. This means its "charter" (the special document that made it a town) was ended.
Population of Bristol
The United States government counts how many people live in different places every ten years. This is called a census.
