History of Bristol

Bristol was officially planned out in 1831. When a town is "platted," it means its streets and building lots are drawn on a map. This helps people know where to build their homes and businesses.

The community was named after Bristol Township, which is the larger area it's located within. A post office was opened in Bristol in 1834. Post offices were very important back then because they were the main way people sent and received letters and packages. The Bristol post office stayed open for many years, finally closing in 1915. When a post office closes, it often means that fewer people are living in the area or that the community has changed a lot.
