Brita Granström facts for kids
Brita Granström (born in 1969) is a talented Swedish artist. She creates amazing paintings and illustrates children's books. Brita studied art in Stockholm and now lives and works in both Great Britain and her home country, Sweden.
Brita Granström's Paintings
Brita Granström is a skilled painter. Her art has been shown in many exhibitions. In 2011, a special painting she made of herself, called Mother of Four, was bought by The Ruth Borchard Collection. This means her artwork is now part of an important group of paintings.
She has had several big art shows. One show, called Life in Landscape, opened in London in 2012. It later traveled to Newcastle, where it was called A Breath of Fresh Air. More recently, her exhibitions include The Night Swimmer in 2014 and Sea Salt & Sourdough in 2015. You can find her art at Thompson's Galleries Aldeburgh.
Illustrating Children's Books
Brita Granström is also a very popular illustrator for children's books. She was nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) in both 2013 and 2014. The ALMA is the largest award in the world for children's literature, which is a huge honor!
In 2011, she was chosen as a Fellow of the English Association. This is a special recognition for people who have made important contributions to the English language and literature.
Brita often works with her partner, Mick Manning, on children's books. Together, they have created many wonderful titles. Their book Charlie's War Illustrated won the English Association Award in 2014. Another book, Taff in the WAAF, also won the English Association Award in 2011. This book was about Mick Manning's mother and her work during the war.
In 1998, The Scotsman newspaper praised their work. They said that Mick Manning and Brita Granström had "revolutionised our bookshelves" with their non-fiction books for younger children. This means they changed how non-fiction books were made for kids, making them much more exciting and easy to understand.
