British Military Mission to Poland facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The British Military Mission to Poland was a group of people from Britain who went to help Poland right after it became an independent country in November 1918. This was at the end of the First World War. Poland was just starting out as a new nation, and it needed help building up its military and government.

Helping a New Nation

This British mission worked alongside a bigger and more important mission from France. Both countries wanted to help Poland, but the British mission wasn't as big or as active as the French one. This was because the British government was having discussions about how to deal with the new government in Russia at the time.

The mission was led by a British General named Adrian Carton De Wiart. Before him, General Louis Botha was in charge.

Not to Be Confused

It's important not to mix up this mission with another one called the Interallied Mission to Poland. That mission was put together quickly by David Lloyd George, who was the British Prime Minister, on July 21, 1920. It happened during a big crisis just before a very important battle called the Battle of Warsaw.
