This T-shaped park covers about 4 acres (about 1.6 hectares). It shares its block with the Brooklyn Children's Museum and a school called P.S. 289 George V Brower.

History of Brower Park

Brower Park is named after George Vanderhoof Brower. He was in charge of parks for Brooklyn and Queens from 1889 to 1894 and again from 1898 to 1901. The school on the same block is also named after him.

The City of Brooklyn bought the southern part of the park in 1892. A comfort station, which is like a public restroom, was built in the park in 1905. A special memorial for World War I was added in 1919.

The park got some updates in 1936. New drinking fountains, benches, and a playground were added. In 1939, a plan to make the park even better brought a new grass lawn. Boy Scouts helped plant this new grass.
