Browns, Scott County, Missouri facts for kids
Browns is a small, unincorporated community located in Scott County, Missouri, in the U.S. state of Missouri. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's usually governed by the county.
The Story of Browns
Browns was established in the 1910s, which means it's over 100 years old! When it was first created, it had a different name: Brown's Spur.
How Browns Got Its Name
The community was named after a supervisor who was in charge of building a canal nearby. This supervisor had a special railway line, called a "spur," built in the area. This railway spur helped bring in all the materials needed to build the canal. Because of this important railway and the supervisor named Brown, the place became known as Brown's Spur, and later, just Browns.
