Exploring Nature and Discovering Fungi

After becoming a monk, Tozzi became very interested in nature. He traveled all over Italy, even going into the high Alps mountains. He collected many different natural things to study.

He worked closely with Pier Antonio Micheli, another famous scientist. Together, they became very interested in fungi. They found and described many new types of fungi. Tozzi even drew pictures of them! His special book about fungi, called Sylva fungorum, is still kept safe in the National Library in Florence.

He lived a quiet life as a monk and passed away in Vallombrosa.
