Brunswick Valley Heritage Park, also called Mullumbimby Heritage Park, is a special park in Mullumbimby, Australia. It's like a big outdoor museum for rainforest trees. You can find it right next to the Brunswick River in north-eastern New South Wales.
This park was started in 1980. It has about 300 different kinds of local rainforest trees. These trees grew from seeds and cuttings found in nearby forests. The park is open every day, and it's free to visit!
Park History
The Mullumbimby area was once part of a huge rainforest. This forest was called the Big Scrub. It covered about 900 square kilometers. The area is known for having both tropical and cooler plants.
For thousands of years, the Bundjalung nation lived here. In the last 150 years, much of the Big Scrub was cut down. This happened because of logging and clearing land for farms. Only small parts of the original forest are left today. These small parts are usually on steep hills.
In 1980, a group of local people had an idea. They were part of the Byron Flora and Fauna Conservation Society. They wanted to create a park to save local plants. The local council helped them start this project. The land chosen was an old horse paddock. It was going to be a caravan park.
The goal was to gather many local plants in one place. On June 7, 1980, the mayor planted the first tree. It was a Red Cedar. This was the official start of Brunswick Valley Heritage Park.
Since then, volunteers have worked hard. They grow and plant trees native to the area. The park now has 300 local plant species. About 40 of these species are rare or special.
Today, Brunswick Valley Landcare helps manage the park. They make sure the park stays beautiful.
