Bryan Willson is an engineering professor at Colorado State University (CSU). He is also the founder and director of the Engines and Energy Conversion Laboratory (EECL) at CSU. His main work involves creating new ways to get and use energy that are good for the planet. These are called sustainable energy solutions.
Bryan Willson's Career
Bryan Willson finished his advanced studies at the University of Texas at Austin in 1988. That same year, he started teaching at Colorado State University. He teaches classes about design, energy, and how to develop things in a way that helps the environment for the long term.
He has helped secure over $30 million for important research projects. He has also supported more than 350 college students in their studies. Plus, he has written or helped write over 200 papers and reports about his research.
For more than 25 years, Willson has worked on big solutions for the world's energy needs. He started and directs CSU's Clean Energy Supercluster, which brings together different groups working on clean energy. He also founded and directs CSU's Engines and Energy Conversion Laboratory. Willson is a co-founder of Envirofit International, a company that creates clean energy products for people around the world. He also helped start Solix Biofuels, a company that works on making fuel from tiny plants called algae.

In June 2009, a famous science magazine called Scientific American honored Bryan Willson. They put him on their first-ever list of the "Scientific American 10." This list highlights ten people who have made big contributions to using science to help people worldwide.
Later in August 2009, he received the Maurice Albertson Medal for Sustainable Development. This award recognizes people who work towards a better future for everyone. Maurice Albertson was important in creating the Peace Corps, a group that helps people in other countries.
