History of Bryantown

Bryantown is built on land that was once called Boarman's Manor. This large area, about 4,000 acres (16 square kilometers), was given to Major William Boarman in 1674.

The community has a connection to an important event in American history. In 1865, after the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, the person responsible, John Wilkes Booth, passed through this area while trying to escape.

Bryantown is also home to St. Mary's Catholic Church. This church is the burial place of Dr. Samuel Mudd. Dr. Mudd lived about 5 miles (8 kilometers) north of Bryantown. He had first met Booth at this very church in November 1864.
