The area now known as Buckeye was once called Bement. It got its current name, Buckeye, because of a group of buckeye trees growing nearby when the community was first settled.

A post office was set up in Buckeye in 1895. This was an important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. However, the post office closed down in 1919, meaning residents had to go to a nearby town for their mail services after that.
