The Amazing Meteorite Event
Something really exciting happened near Buena Vista on March 28, 1859. A space rock, known as a meteor, exploded high above the area! This explosion scattered pieces of the space rock, called meteorites, over a large area of about 4 square miles.
Only four of these special space rocks were found. They were a type called chondrite meteorites. Two of these rare pieces are now kept in a museum in London, England. A scientist named Dr. Crosier carefully studied these meteorites. He wrote down important details like who found them, where they landed, what they were made of, their size, and even their smell!
