The Buena Vista Park Historic District in Tulsa, Oklahoma is a special area that covers about 5 acres. It was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 2007. This means its buildings are important because of their history and design.
What Makes It Special?
This historic district has 24 buildings that are considered important. These buildings show off different styles of architecture from the early 1900s. The main styles you'll see are:
- Colonial Revival: This style looks back to the early American colonial homes.
- Prairie School: This style often has flat roofs and wide, open spaces. It blends with the flat landscapes.
- Bungalow/Craftsman: These homes are usually smaller and built with natural materials. They often have wide porches.
The buildings in this district were mostly built between 1913 and 1933. This time period is known as its "period of significance."
Where Is It Located?
The Buena Vista Park Historic District is made up of three blocks. These blocks were first planned out in 1908. The district is located near the Arkansas River. Its borders are:
- East 18th Street on the north side.
- The backyards of homes on the east side of South Cheyenne Avenue.
- East 21st Street on the south side.
- Riverside Drive and Carson Drive on the west side.
Famous Homes in the District
One important building in the district is the James Alexander Veasey House. You can find it at 1802 South Cheyenne Avenue West. This house was already listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a great example of the Colonial Revival style. The entire district was added to the NRHP because of its beautiful and historic architecture.
