Burnalle James Hayes (August 2, 1903 – November 29, 1969) was a talented American baseball player. He was known by his nickname, "Bun." Bun Hayes played as a pitcher in the Negro leagues from 1928 to 1935.

Who Was Bun Hayes?

Bun Hayes was born in Louisburg, North Carolina. He grew up there and later attended college. He studied at both Johnson C. Smith University and North Carolina Central University. These experiences helped shape his life before he became a professional baseball player.

Playing in the Negro Leagues

The Negro leagues were professional baseball leagues in the United States. They were active from the late 1800s to the mid-1900s. These leagues were created because African American players were not allowed to play in the major leagues at that time. Many amazing players, like Bun Hayes, showed their skills in these leagues.

His Teams and Career

Bun Hayes started his professional baseball journey in 1928. His first team was the Baltimore Black Sox. He played with them for a few seasons, from 1928 to 1930.

After his time with the Black Sox, he also played for other teams. In 1930, he joined the Chicago American Giants. Later, in 1932, he played for the Washington Pilots. Bun Hayes returned to the Baltimore Black Sox for two more seasons in 1933 and 1934.

He finished his baseball career in 1935. During his final year, he played for two teams: the Brooklyn Eagles and the Newark Dodgers. Bun Hayes passed away in his hometown of Louisburg, North Carolina, in 1969. He was 66 years old.
