Louisburg is a town in Franklin County, North Carolina, United States. It is also the county seat, which means it is where the main government offices for the county are located.
In 2020, about 3,064 people lived in Louisburg. The town is about 29 miles northeast of Raleigh, the state capital. It is also about 31 miles south of the Virginia border. Louisburg is home to Louisburg College, which is the oldest two-year college in the United States that accepts both male and female students.

History of Louisburg
Louisburg was founded in 1779. It was named after King Louis XVI of France. At that time, King Louis XVI was helping the American colonies during the American Revolution. The town was built on land bought specifically to create a courthouse.
In the 1960s, there were challenges related to civil rights in Louisburg. In 1965, some African-American families wanted their children to attend schools that were mostly white. Local newspapers and radio stations shared their names and addresses. Because of this, these families faced threats and attacks from some people. In 1966, there were also instances of the Ku Klux Klan burning crosses in Franklin County, including one in Louisburg. These events were part of a larger struggle for equal rights for all people.

Louisburg covers an area of about 2.8 square miles (7.3 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

Louisburg has a humid subtropical climate. This means it has cool to mild winters and hot, humid summers. Most of the rain falls during the summer months, often from afternoon thunderstorms. Snowfall is usually light and does not happen very often. On average, Louisburg gets about 1.7 inches (4.32 cm) of snow each year.

Louisburg's Population in 2010
According to the census of 2010, Louisburg had 3,359 people. Most residents were either White (47.3%) or African American (46.9%). A smaller number of people were Native American, Asian, or from other racial backgrounds. About 5.5% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
The town had 1,197 households. About 23% of these households had children under 18 living there. Many households were made up of individuals living alone, especially those 65 years or older.

Franklin County Schools
The main offices for Franklin County Schools (FCS) are in Louisburg. FCS manages 15 schools and serves over 8,500 students. These schools are located in the towns of Franklinton, Louisburg, Youngsville, and Bunn. The school system includes eight elementary schools, three middle schools, three high schools, and one alternative school.
Louisburg College
Louisburg College is a two-year college in Louisburg, North Carolina. It is a residential college, meaning students can live on campus. The college helps students get ready to transfer to a four-year university to earn a bachelor's degree.
Louisburg College offers three main degree programs:
- An Associate in Arts (a general college degree)
- An Associate in Science (a general science degree)
- An Associate in Business degree
The college also has special programs to support students. These include the Academy, which offers tutoring for all students. The Learning Partners Program helps students with learning disabilities or ADHD. The Crossroads Program supports first-year students as they adjust to college life.
