Bunji Kimura (born July 27, 1944) is a famous Japanese football (soccer) player and manager. He was born in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. Kimura played as a defender for Yanmar Diesel and later became a successful coach for several Japanese clubs.

Bunji Kimura's Playing Career

Bunji Kimura started his football journey after finishing college. He joined a team called Yanmar Diesel in 1968. This team was very strong in the Japan Soccer League at the time.

Playing for Yanmar Diesel

Kimura played for Yanmar Diesel from 1968 to 1973. He was a key player for the team. During his time, Yanmar Diesel won the Japan Soccer League championship in 1971. They also won the Emperor's Cup twice, in 1968 and 1970. He played 72 games and scored 2 goals for the team. He stopped playing professional football in 1973.

Bunji Kimura's Coaching Career

After he stopped playing, Bunji Kimura decided to become a football coach. He started his coaching career with a local club in Kyoto.

Early Coaching Days

In 1982, Kimura became the manager for Kyoto Shiko. This club later changed its name to Kyoto Purple Sanga. He coached them until 1991.

Coaching in the J.League

In 1991, Kimura joined Yokohama Flügels as an assistant coach. He worked with the head coach, Shu Kamo. When Kamo left to coach the Japan national football team, Kimura took over as the main manager in 1995. He coached Yokohama Flügels for a short time before stepping down. He continued to work for the club as a staff member.

Moving to Kyoto Purple Sanga

After Yokohama Flügels faced difficulties, Kimura moved back to Kyoto Purple Sanga. He helped the team as a temporary manager, also known as a "caretaker manager," in 1999 and again in 2003. He left the club in 2004.

Later Coaching Roles

In 2007, Bunji Kimura became the manager for FC Suzuka Rampole. He coached this team until August 2010. His long career shows his dedication to Japanese football, both as a player and a coach.
