The Buruna people, also known as the Punduna, are an Aboriginal Australian group. They come from the Mid West region of Western Australia.

Their Language

The Buruna people spoke a language called Buruna. It was part of the Kanyara group of languages. This group belongs to the larger Pama-Nyungan language family.

Their Traditional Lands

The Buruna people lived on a large area of land. According to a researcher named Norman Tindale, their traditional lands covered about 3,300 square miles (8,500 square kilometers).

Their country was near the Yannarie River. It stretched southwest to Winning Pool and the northern side of the Lyndon River. To the east, their lands were around Mount Hamlet and Maroonah. Sometimes, they would visit the lands of the Tenma people near the Henry River.

History of Contact

Over time, some of the Buruna people moved. They settled around a place called Towera Station.
