Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant facts for kids

The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant is a special power station in Iran. It uses nuclear energy to make electricity. This plant is located about 17 kilometers (11 miles) southeast of the city of Bushehr. It sits between the fishing villages of Halileh and Bandargeh, right by the Persian Gulf.

Building Iran's First Nuclear Plant

The idea for the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant started a long time ago. Plans were first made in the 1970s. Companies from Germany began building it in 1975. However, their work stopped in 1979.

Later, Russia stepped in to help. The governments of Iran and Russia agreed to finish the power plant together. This big project cost around $800 million.

Making Electricity

The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant is very important for Iran. It is the country's very first nuclear power plant. It began working when it was first filled with special nuclear fuel on August 21, 2010. This plant now helps provide electricity for many people in Iran.
