Adventure in the Mountains: The Story of Bushwhacked
This section tells you all about the exciting journey Max takes in Bushwhacked. It's a story full of mistaken identities and unexpected friendships.
Max's Big Problem
The movie starts with "Mad" Max Grabelski (Daniel Stern), a delivery man. He delivers packages for a rich man named Reinhart Bragdon (Anthony Heald). One night, Max finds a fire at Bragdon's mansion. He accidentally picks up a gun belonging to FBI Agent Palmer (Jon Polito). Max then has to run away.
Later, Max sees a news report. Agent Palmer claims that Bragdon died in the fire. Palmer also says Max started the fire to hide a big secret about money. Now, Max is wanted by the police. He learns that one last package needs to go to Bragdon's mountain cabin. Max decides to deliver it to clear his name.
Mistaken Identity on the Trail
Max heads towards Devil's Peak, where the cabin is. But a store clerk and a scoutmaster, Jack Erickson (Brad Sullivan), recognize him. Max has to act fast to escape. He tricks Erickson and takes his van. Soon, Max is mistaken for a scoutmaster who is supposed to lead a group of boy scouts.
Max pretends to be the scoutmaster. This helps him continue his journey towards Devil's Peak. Meanwhile, the FBI finds Erickson and sets up a base nearby. Agent Palmer and Erickson then chase after Max and the scouts. Max cleverly cuts a bridge, making it harder for them to follow.
Scouts Discover the Truth
As they travel, the scouts build a makeshift radio. They hear the news and realize who Max really is. They decide to help the police. The scouts put sleeping pills in Max's water. They also use smoke signals to show their location to Erickson.
Max falls asleep, but Agent Palmer captures him alone. Palmer promises the scouts a rescue helicopter. However, the scouts are suspicious and secretly follow them. Max wakes up and learns the shocking truth. Bragdon is alive, and he's a criminal! Palmer is working with Bragdon. Their plan was to steal money and make it look like Max was responsible.
A Daring Rescue Mission
Before Bragdon and Palmer can harm Max, the scouts jump in to help. They knock Palmer out. Max falls into a river, and the scouts follow him. They reach safety and throw their backpacks into the river. This makes Palmer and Bragdon think they are gone.
Without supplies, the scouts decide to stick with Max. They want to help him reach Devil's Peak. Meanwhile, one of the scout's mothers, Mrs. Patterson (Ann Dowd), finds a clue. She realizes Max is heading to Devil's Peak. She chases after them in her van.
Mrs. Patterson arrives first but is captured by Bragdon. Max and the scouts arrive as Bragdon gets the final package. Palmer catches up, but Erickson, who freed himself, stops him. Max sneaks into the cabin to free Mrs. Patterson. Bragdon appears and forces them to the edge of a cliff.
Mrs. Patterson's son, Gordy (Blake Bashoff), tries to stop Bragdon. He falls over the cliff but hangs onto a branch. Max quickly knocks Bragdon out. He then climbs down the cliff and pulls Gordy to safety.
Max Becomes a Hero
With Bragdon and Palmer captured, Max's name is cleared. Everyone knows he's innocent. Because of his brave actions, Max is given a special scoutmaster's honor. He is even put in charge of a bigger group of scouts for a new, challenging mission!
