The Butler Armory is a historic building in Butler, Pennsylvania. It was once a training center for the National Guard. The National Guard is a group of citizen soldiers. They help during emergencies and support the military.
This armory is located on Washington Street. It was designed by architect Joseph F. Kuntz and W.G. Wilkins, Co. The building was first built in 1922. Later, it was made bigger in 1930.

What is an Armory?
An armory is a special building. It is used by soldiers to train and store equipment. Think of it like a school for soldiers. They learn important skills there. They also keep their gear safe inside.
Design of the Building
The Butler Armory has a unique shape. It looks like the letter "T" from above. The building has two main parts.
Drill Hall
The largest part is a one-story brick hall. This area was used for drills and training. Soldiers would practice their movements here. It has a special roof called a gambrel roof. This roof has two different slopes on each side.
Administration Section
The front part of the building is two stories tall. This section was for offices and managing the armory. It is also made of brick. This front part shows off the Art Deco style. Art Deco was a popular design style in the 1920s and 1930s. It features bold shapes and geometric patterns. This section has a flat roof.
The whole building sits on a strong stone foundation.
A Historic Landmark
The Butler Armory is an important historical site. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. This means it is recognized for its historical value. It is a protected landmark.
New Training Center
Over time, the National Guard needed a new, bigger space. On June 23, 2010, a new facility was opened. It is called the Butler Readiness Center. This new center is located in Renfrew, Pennsylvania.
The new center provides more room for soldiers. They can work and train there. It also has advanced systems. These systems help soldiers learn new technologies. This training is important for modern combat operations. Company A, 1st Battalion, 112th Infantry Regiment, now uses this new facility.
