The Butler Center for Arkansas Studies is a special place that helps people learn more about Arkansas. It was started in 1997. Its main goal is to help everyone understand and enjoy Arkansas's history, books, art, and culture.
The center is named after Richard C. Butler Sr., who was a well-known lawyer and a generous person (a philanthropist) from Little Rock. The Butler Center works like a big library and a historical storage place. It keeps many important things related to Arkansas. The Butler Center does many exciting things to share Arkansas's story.
Online History for Everyone
One of its big projects is an online collection of Arkansas history called The Encyclopedia of Arkansas History & Culture. This is like a giant online book where you can find out about almost anything related to Arkansas! It's part of the Central Arkansas Library System.
Music, Radio, and Research
- Arkansas Sounds Music Series: This series features live concerts by musicians who have connections to Arkansas. It's a great way to hear local talent!
- Radio CALS: This is a weekly radio show. It plays music, shares interesting talks, and features recorded stories (oral histories) from the Butler Center's collections.
- Arkansas Studies Institute: This is a special project that works with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock's Center for Arkansas History and Culture. It helps researchers look at collections from both places in one spot.
