How It Started and Grew
The encyclopedia officially began in 2006. Back then, it had about 700 articles and 900 photos or videos. It has grown a lot since then!

The first editor was Tom W. Dillard. Since 2018, Guy Lancaster has been the editor. He was one of the first interns who helped start the project.
Many groups help pay for the encyclopedia. The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is a big supporter. Other helpers include the Department of Arkansas Heritage and the Arkansas Humanities Council. Various foundations, like the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, also provide money.
