Cádiar is a small town in Spain. It is located in the province of Granada. In 2005, about 1,601 people lived there.

Cádiar shares borders with several other towns. These include Lobras, Bérchules, Alpujarra de la Sierra, Ugíjar, Murtas, and Albondón. Other nearby places are Tímar, Golco, and Alcútar.

Cádiar's Past

Cádiar is in a special area called Las Alpujarras. Because it was a bit isolated, it developed its own unique culture. This area was very important for farming during the time of the Grenadines. They were especially good at making silk.

Early Records and Castles

Cádiar has always been a meeting point for different cultures. We know about its history from the 12th century. A famous geographer from Granada, al-Idrisi, wrote about a castle in Cádiar. It was once called "Hisn al-Qadir," which means "Castle of the judge."

During the Muslim era, Cádiar had a mosque. It also had several cemeteries and at least three neighborhoods. Each neighborhood had its own walls. In the Moorish period, Cádiar was part of a larger area called tahá Juviles. Sixteen other villages were also part of this area.

The Reconquest and Revolt

In 1492, the Catholic Monarchs took back Granada. This event is known as the Reconquest. After this, the people of Cádiar faced many challenges.

In 1568, a wealthy landowner named Fernando de Córdoba y Valor, also known as Aben Humeya, decided to fight against King Philip II. The revolt started in Cádiar on Christmas Eve. A group of soldiers staying in Cádiar were surprised, and a conflict began.
