Cándido Muatetema Rivas was an important political leader from Equatorial Guinea. He was born on February 20, 1960, and passed away on June 16, 2014. He served as the country's Prime Minister from 2001 to 2004.

Early Life and Beginnings
Cándido Muatetema Rivas was born in a village called Batete. This village is located in the southern part of what was then known as Fernando Po. Today, this island is called Bioko. His family, the Rivas, had roots from Cuba.
Public Service Roles
Muatetema Rivas held several important jobs in his country's government.
- General Treasurer of the State: From November 1991 to August 1993, he managed the country's money.
- Secretary of State for Youth and Sports: From December 1993 to January 1996, he worked with young people and sports programs.
He also helped start the youth group for the Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE). He was the main leader of this youth group from 1993 to 1995. Later, he became a top assistant leader for the main PDGE party.
Work in Parliament
From June 1996 to February 2001, Muatetema Rivas was the Second Secretary of the Chamber of People's Representatives. This is like being a leader in the country's parliament. He also worked with an important group called CEMAC's Inter-Parliamentary Commission. He was a Vice-President for one of its economic groups from April 2000 to February 2001.
Becoming Prime Minister
On February 26, 2001, President Teodoro Obiang Nguema chose Cándido Muatetema Rivas to be the new Prime Minister. He took over from Ángel Serafín Seriche Dougan. His government officially started on February 27. President Obiang asked his new team to work together and show strong unity.
Muatetema Rivas and his government stepped down on July 11, 2004. President Obiang then chose Miguel Abia Biteo Boricó to be the next Prime Minister on July 14. His government had a large team with 50 different ministerial jobs.
Later Years and Legacy
In 2005, Cándido Muatetema Rivas was chosen to be Ambassador for Equatorial Guinea in Germany. He held this important job until he passed away.
Cándido Muatetema Rivas died in Berlin, Germany, on June 16, 2014. He was 54 years old.
