Discovering Santa Maria Church

One of the most interesting things about Cóll is its old church. It's called the Church of Santa Maria. This church was built a very long time ago, in the 12th century. That means it's over 800 years old!

What is Romanesque Architecture?

The Church of Santa Maria is a great example of Romanesque architecture. This was a popular style of building in Europe during the Middle Ages. Romanesque churches often look very strong and solid. They usually have thick walls and rounded arches.

Inside the Church

The main part of the church, called the nave, has a special kind of ceiling. It's shaped like a half-cylinder, which is known as a barrel vault. This type of ceiling was common in Romanesque buildings. The church also has a tall bell tower. Bell towers were important for calling people to worship. They also helped people find the church from far away.
