A Look Back: The History of the Ca Rater Mallorquí
The exact beginnings of the Ca Rater Mallorquí are not fully known. There are no written records about them before the late 1800s.
In the early 1900s, people from Valencia moved to Mallorca. They might have brought some ratter dogs with them. Many people believe the Ca Rater Mallorquí is related to the Gos Rater Valencià. It is also possible that some English terrier dogs influenced the breed's history.
Becoming an Official Breed
A special group called the Club Espanyol del Ca Rater Mallorquí was started in 1990. This club began keeping records of the dogs.
The breed became officially recognized by the government of the Balearic Islands in 2002. This happened when their official breed standard (a description of what the dog should look like) was published. In 2004, the breed received national recognition in Spain.
