Cabañas is a special area in El Salvador, like a state or province. It's called a "department." The main city, or capital, of Cabañas is Sensuntepeque. This department was officially created in February 1873.
The department got its name from a famous Central American hero, General José Trinidad Cabañas. He was a very important person who later worked as a minister in El Salvador's government.
