History of Guacotecti
Guacotecti was already a settled place in the early 1500s. This was around the time Spaniards first arrived in the area. The town was originally founded by the Lenca tribes. They are an indigenous group from Mesoamerica.
Ancient Conquerors
Later, in the late 1400s, Guacotecti was taken over by Yaqui or Pipil warriors. These groups were also native to the region. They were known for their strong warrior traditions.
What Guacotecti Means
The name Guacotecti comes from the Nahuatl language. In Nahuatl, it means "High Priest of the Treasures." This suggests the area might have been important for religious or valuable items long ago.

Guacotecti is located in the country of El Salvador. It is part of the Cabañas Department. The municipality sits at an elevation of about 630 meters (2,067 feet) above sea level. Its coordinates are approximately 13 degrees 52 minutes North latitude and 88 degrees 39 minutes West longitude.
