Cabrera is a lively town in the María Trinidad Sánchez Province of the Dominican Republic. It sits on the eastern side of the country's north coast. You can find it at the western edge of the Scottish Bay. It's about 130 kilometers north of Santo Domingo, the capital city.
This town was first called 'Tres Amarras'. It got this name when it was founded on July 1, 1891. Later, the town was renamed 'Cabrera'. This was done to honor General José Cabrera, a hero from the Capotillo Battle. Today, Cabrera covers an area of about 276 square kilometers.
Cabrera has a population of over 39,000 people. Unlike many coastal towns, it doesn't rely mostly on tourism. Cabrera's main income comes from raising cattle, producing meat, and milk. Farmers also grow a lot of coconuts and rice, which are important for the town's economy.
