The Cachée River (which means "Hidden River" in English) is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows through the town of Saint-Raymond. This river is a branch of the Mauvaise River.
The area around the Cachée River is mostly covered by forests. Forest roads are used for logging and for fun outdoor activities. The main activities here are forestry and tourism.
The river's surface usually freezes from early December to late March. It's generally safe to walk on the ice from late December to early March. The water level changes with the seasons and how much it rains. The biggest flow of water, called the spring flood, happens in March or April.
River's Journey
The Cachée River starts from a lake called Lac Caché. This lake is about 0.4 kilometers long and sits at an elevation of 404 meters.
From Lac Caché, the river flows for about 9.1 kilometers. It generally moves towards the south-east through a forested area. The river drops about 248 meters from its source to its mouth.
River's Path
The river's journey includes several parts:
- It flows south for about 2.4 kilometers, passing through a small forest lake.
- Then, it turns east for 1.3 kilometers, crossing Lake Renversi. This lake is 1.3 kilometers long and is 274 meters above sea level. Lake Renversi has a marshy area and receives water from Lac No Good.
- Next, it flows east for 0.8 kilometers through a deep valley. Here, it gets water from Lac Morasse and Petit Lac Morasse.
- It continues east for 3.0 kilometers, bending towards the south-east around a mountain. It also receives water from a group of lakes called "Les Trois Petits Lacs."
- Finally, it flows north-east for 0.3 kilometers across a small flat area before reaching its end.
Where the River Ends
The Cachée River flows into the west bank of the Mauvaise River. This meeting point is near a small village called "Rivière-Mauvaise."
From this point, the water from the Cachée River joins other rivers:
- It flows for 9.0 kilometers along the Mauvaise River.
- Then, it travels about 11.7 kilometers south along the Bras du Nord.
- Finally, it continues for about 76.0 kilometers along the Sainte-Anne River. This river eventually reaches the Saint Lawrence River.
River Name
The word "toponymy" is the study of place names. The name Rivière Cachée was officially recognized on December 5, 1968. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec, which is like a special committee for place names in Quebec.
