Cadwallader Davis Blayney (born 1802, died 1874) was an important Irish nobleman and politician. He was known as the 12th Baron Blayney. He had a career in the army and later became a Member of Parliament in the United Kingdom.

Early Life and Family

Cadwallader Davis Blayney was born in London on December 19, 1802. His family was well-known in Ireland. His father was Andrew Blayney, who was the 11th Baron Blayney. His mother was Marbella, the oldest daughter of James Alexander, the 1st Earl of Caledon. From the time he was born until 1834, people called him "The Honourable Cadwallader Blayney."

Army Career

Blayney joined the British Army when he was 18 years old. In 1821, he became an ensign in the 4th Regiment of Foot. An ensign was a junior officer who carried the regiment's flag. Soon after, he moved to the Rifle Brigade as a second lieutenant.

He continued to move between different army regiments. In 1825, he became a lieutenant in the 89th Regiment of Foot. He then returned to the Rifle Brigade and later joined the 7th Regiment of Foot. In 1826, he was promoted to captain. He left the army in 1830.

Political Life

After his army career, Blayney entered politics. In 1830, he was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Monaghan, a county in Ireland. He was a member of the Tory party. He served in the British House of Commons, which is part of the United Kingdom's Parliament.

In 1834, his father passed away. Cadwallader Blayney then became the 12th Baron Blayney. This meant he inherited his father's title and became a peer. Seven years later, in 1841, he was chosen as a representative peer. This allowed him to join the House of Lords, which is the upper house of the UK Parliament.

Later Life and Legacy

In 1852, Baron Blayney sold his family's large estate in Ireland, called Castleblayney. He sold it to Henry Thomas Hope.

Cadwallader Blayney died in London on January 18, 1874. He was 71 years old. He did not have any children. Because of this, when he died, the title of Baron Blayney came to an end. He is buried in Kensal Green Cemetery in London.
