It has two main houses. One is a very old Georgian farmhouse built before the American Revolution. The other is a Cape-style house from 1836. The Cushing family owned this farm for many years. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. This means it's an important historical site!
About the Farm and Houses
The Caleb Cushing House and Farm is in a quiet, country part of Rehoboth. It sits on the west side of Pine Street. The main house has a picket fence around its yard.
The Oldest House
The main house is a two-and-a-half-story building. It's made of wood and has a roof that slopes down on two sides. There's a chimney in the middle. The outside is covered with wooden boards called clapboards.
A small porch covers the front door. Inside, you can still see the original fireplaces and some old doors. This house was built by Joseah Cushing. It was built sometime between the 1740s and 1770s. It's one of the best-preserved old houses in Rehoboth.
The Newer Cape House
A little bit north of the main house is another house. This one is a one-and-a-half-story Cape-style house. It's also made of wood. It has a side-gable roof with two dormer windows sticking out. There's a chimney in the middle.
A part of the house sticks out to the left, making it almost twice as big. This part has another entrance and three more dormer windows. The main front door has a fancy design called Greek Revival. This house was built in 1836. Family stories say it was built because of a disagreement with an aunt who then lived there!
